In 1947, George Norgan, a successful Vancouver business with roots in Palmerston, recognized the lack of leisure opportunities in his hometown. He addressed this situation with a personal donation of $50,000 for the construction of a movie theatre, the Norgan Theatre which bears his name. The Theatre opened August 18, 1947 with 5,000 people attending various events. As of today, the historic Norgan Theatre is one of the few municipally-owned film theatres in Canada. It is operated primarily by volunteers with administrative assistance from Town of Minto staff. In addition to regular weekend show times, the Norgan hosts a variety of special performances including the Big Film Fest monthly film festival, comedy nights, concerts and workshops.
Aside from attending our weekly showing and special events, movie-goers can rent the big screen! Whether you are looking for a private showing of a movie for a birthday party, or interested in playing video games on a large scale, the Norgan is equipped with a high-definition digital projector for the ultimate experience.
